Too Many Venues: Narrow Down Your Wedding Venue

It’s time to book your wedding, and you’ve quickly run out of energy for big decisions. Unfortunately, you still haven’t picked your venue. So what’s an aspiring bride or groom to do? Read on, because we’ve got the inspo you need to make your wedding the magical moment you’ve been dreaming of.

Gone are the days when a church wedding is your only choice, and decision fatigue can set in quickly when you have 500 venues to scroll between. So let’s break it down by venue type, and see what sparks your imagination. These five venue types are guaranteed to get your dream wheels turning:

Down By The River

Beach weddings are tough, with the wind and the sand. But there’s an alternative that offers a beautiful waterfront backdrop without all the downsides: rivers or lakes. Whether you’re in it for the jaw-dropping photo ops or the feel of the breezes off the water adding that little tingle of magic, choosing a waterfront venue means the venue itself can be the theme. That knocks two “to do” items off your list in one go.

A Small Affair

Micro means small but it doesn’t mean underwhelming. Micro weddings are increasingly popular, and 2025 promises to see more than ever before. Micro weddings are small, intimate ceremonies that typically involve fewer than 50 people, and here’s the trick: you can have them in your own backyard. Or the backyard of that friend whose landscaping looks like a fantasy. You might choose a micro wedding to save money, time or because you prefer the intimate feel of it, and the advantages includes the fact that your venue can be much more personal.

Who wants to stand on a dais that’s only a few feet high when the alternative is to stand on a proper stage, head and shoulders above your guests, with all lights and eyes on you? Go big or go home with the concert hall type venue. Not only can you customize lighting and backdrops, but there’s enough seating for everyone without renting those finger-snapping folding chairs.

Interactive Venues

Make the moment individualized. Museums and parks mean your guests can be part of the fun. If you and your future spouse are science-minded, consider a venue that allows your guests to dig into an experiment or exhibit that helps them explore the world in new ways.

Quirky Qualities

Perhaps a themed wedding is up your alley, and you need to pick a venue that fits the theme. There’s nothing better than a fantasy-themed wedding in a castle setting or with a ren-faire background. For a quirky venue, think about what sort of venue will bring your vision to life, and look around. For out of the box themes, think creatively: your Shakesperean wedding might take flight at your local community theater. And for sports, think sports bars with memorabilia walls to make the ideal backdrop.
