The Dawn and Christopher Hume love story is deeply intertwined with Las Vegas history. Although the places where they met and celebrated their matrimony are gone, this duo proves to be a timeless match, a flame that still burns brightly decades later.
In the late ’80s, Dawn celebrated her last day at Caesars Palace before starting a new job at The Golden Nugget. She grabbed drinks with her friend Missy, who was from out of town, at the Rathskeller—a once beloved pub at The Alpine Village Inn that’s now just a memory. Missy invited her college buddy to join them, which marked the pivotal moment when Dawn and Christopher first met.
Christopher, with a twinkle in his eye, recalls meeting his future wife. “I will never forget [she] had jet black hair and red lips. I thought to myself, ‘Wow, that’s like, Cher.’”
A Tale of Two Cities

When Dawn and Christopher met at that pub, it seemed like only a fleeting spark, but they stayed in touch.
“He lived in LA. I lived in Las Vegas. I didn’t think anything was ever going to come of that night, other than, you know, it was cute. And then it was every weekend he was flying to Vegas or I was flying to LA, but I kept waiting then for the proposal,” says Dawn.
The calendar flipped a few times, and still—no ring. Dawn contemplated if she was “the one” for him. Fortunately, she stayed hopeful. When he surprised her one morning by arriving in a limousine to pop the question, she said yes.
“Was I dragging my feet? Yes. Was I scared? Yes, but I was also planning a little bit too. So it had to be just perfect,” says Christopher.
Volcanos, Dolphins and Tigers, Oh My!

On February 22, 1992, Dawn and Christopher Hume exchanged vows in the ballroom at The Mirage Casino and Hotel. Dawn was leading the special events team at this property, so the departments banded together to make their marriage ceremony extra special.
“When you’re planning your wedding, you want to have a great story to tell. Ours is one steeped in history. We get to tell people that, ‘Oh, there used to be this hotel and it had a volcano, tigers and dolphins, and we got married there. As sad as it is to see that icon close, the story got better,” says Christopher.
The romantic pair’s nuptials drew 150 guests, including Las Vegas legends Steve and Elaine Wynn, and Jeanne Hood, former operator of The Four Queens and one of the first women to run a major hotel-casino.
The Hume Beat Goes On

The Humes’ 30th wedding anniversary was a series of nostalgic moments with a few modern touches. For the first time, the couple posed beneath the iconic “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign before returning to The Mirage. There, they captured heartfelt photos where they first exchanged wedding vows. They toasted with Cristal and shared a replica of their wedding cake while chatting with some guests from their original ceremony over Zoom.
“If you’re given a choice between renewing your vows or revisiting the scene of the crime, go back to where it happened,” says Christopher.
