LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A celebration of love in Las Vegas also helped raise money to support Nevada’s homeless youth.

Clark County Clerk Lynn Marie Goya on Friday presented a check for $16,000 to the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth.

The money was raised during last year’s 70th anniversary celebration of Las Vegas becoming known as the “Wedding Capital of the World.”

The check presentation was held in front of the county clerk’s pop-up marriage license bureau at Harry Reid International Airport.

Allan Shutt, a board member of the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, was on hand to accept the donation.

The organization serves hundreds of youth through programs meant to stabilize homeless teens’ lives and provide them with a path to self-sufficiency.

The Office of the Clark County Clerk, which oversees marriage licenses, says the first known reference to Las Vegas as the “wedding capital of the world” appeared in the London Daily Herald in September 1953.
