LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Las Vegas will soon celebrate becoming a matrimonial milestone.
Plans were unveiled on Thursday to host a 70th-anniversary celebration at Caesars Palace in September for Las Vegas becoming “The Wedding Capital of the World.”
The Sept. 3 celebration, called “Las Vegas Will You Marry Me,” will feature local officials and entertainment figures. Hundreds of couples will renew their vows and enjoy an original vintage Vegas-inspired show paying tribute to 70 years of love.
The Office of the Clark County Clerk, which oversees marriage licenses in Las Vegas, says the first known reference to Las Vegas as the “wedding capital of the world” appeared in the London Daily Herald in September 1953.
The county reached 5 million weddings in February last year.
Tickets for the extravaganza are expected to go on sale in mid-May, starting at $70 for general admission and $170 for VIP vow renewals. The event will benefit the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth.
